Hughes Vows to Spend Less than Half of Previous Mayoral Races
Shelly Hughes, candidate for mayor of Waukee, Iowa, wants to make one thing clear: she wants to be elected mayor to serve the people of the Waukee community, not those who donate the most to her campaign.
Historically, mayoral races in the Waukee area have spent well over $20,000, and Hughes commits to spending less than half of that on her campaign.
“Money in politics often takes the focus away from what is truly important, and I want to change this,” says Hughes. “I want my campaign to focus on the needs of the people of Waukee, not who has donated the most to me.”
Additionally, any money Hughes raises that isn’t spent during the course of her campaign will be donated to Waukee Area Christian Services food pantry, to help families in need in Waukee’s neighborhoods.
